Love, Sex and Pandemic

The film tells the story of the loneliness epidemic we are experiencing. Today, despite having easier than ever access to sex we have greater problems with building close relationships and loving other people. Love, Sex and Pandemic is about four relationships between people. We follow the lives of three women and a young man who are sexually liberated and treat monogamy lightly. When the coronavirus pandemic begins, the protagonists are faced with the opportunity of setting their lives straight. They realise that they had not been aware of the illness of their souls they had been suffering from. The spectre of pandemic which is a bodily illness becomes a chance to change their approach to life. We are presented with four different attitudes and we learn whether and how four different people take advantage of the window of opportunity that opens up during this special time. Three of the protagonists fail in their attempt at changing. Only one comes out victorious out of the battle.

Olga is an ardent feminists who hates Arabs for their objectification of women. Ironically, she has an affair with a man just like that. The woman becomes totally addicted to Baha and leaves her partner Kamil with whom she has a child. Kamil cannot offer Olga the emotions and thrills that she longs for. We watch the transformation of a tough feminist into a submissive woman. Olga completely loses herself in the relationship with Baha and allows herself to be fully dominated by the Cypriot man. During the pandemic, she decides to break up with him and make amends with her ex boyfriend. Unfortunately, she cannot break free from the destructive feeling and is drawn back into Baha’s arms.

Kaja is a journalist of a tabloid celebrity newspaper. She objectifies men and her heart is as cold as ice. She is addicted to Tinder and decides to write a story about a popular pick-up guru. She meets him and uses their encounter to ridicule him in the media, as a result of which a lawsuit ensues. During the trial, Kaja’s bank account is seized by a court collection officer. The desperate woman feigns a truce between the man and herself and the couple have sex. The protagonist takes advantage of what happened and accuses the man of rape. The man is detained and commits suicide in his cell. Kaja uses her personal story as a springboard to popularity, portraying herself as a victim and tells everyone about her trauma to protect other women.

Bart is a regular shy young man who does not have much experience with women. A male stripper he meets encourages him to join the crew. Bart concedes but when he meets the love of his life, Roksana, he quits performing in clubs and having sex for money. After he proposes to his girlfriend he learns that she is an exclusive call girl who travels abroad for work. The young man is furious. What Bart believed to be the perfect relationship is broken off and Bart resumes his debauched life.

Nora is a lonely 48-year-old photographer going through a mid-life crisis. During a photo shoot she falls in love with Alf, a young man she photographed. To be able to spend more time with him Nora decides to make Alf a star. They soon become a couple but the relationship is short-lived. Once Alf gets a taste of popularity he breaks free from under the photographer’s wings. Nora has compromising photographs that if published could destroy the man. She decides against this and instead holds an exhibition where she shows photographs depicting the most beautiful moments of her relationship with Alf. Nora is convinced she will never experience anything beautiful again and never find love. But the very last scene is a game-changer.
